FORM A SEPARATE TELANGANA STATE

Deepali: - Baapre baap, how I came back home, that only I know. All those hooligans were just breaking the glass panes of shopping malls and some of them have looted one shop. When I came to Hyderabad, I thought that this is a very peaceful city with no political clashes or problems. But, I am now seeing Hyderabad as a second Kolkata city, where political people are blocking roads and fighting with each other.

Swaraj: - Oho, you are talking about the TRS supporters. Boss, their leader KCR is in serious condition and neither the State government nor the Indian government is taking any steps to end his fast.

Richa: - By the way, I don’t understand one thing that why these people want a separate Telangana state? Who are these people? Are they not the Andhraites?

Arindam: - No, there is a basic difference between Andhraites and Telangana people? Both of them speak Telugu language, but their ancestral source is different. Telangana is the north-western region of Andhra Pradesh including Hyderabad and Secunderabad city. The people of coastal and south-eastern Andhra Pradesh belongs to the Kakatiya tribes, whereas the people of Telangana region belongs to Telavana tribes.

Palash: - Uff, really, what is happening in India, nowadays? Everywhere, people are shouting for their own state, as per their linguistic basis and their ancestral tribal identity. Who knows, maybe, in some years later, Saurashtra people will demand for a separate Saurashtra state. And what to say about your BJP party, Arindam? Your BJP party always supported the formation of separate states. They formed Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh and now they are supporting the formation of Telangana and Gorkhaland.

Arindam: - Formation of Gorkhaland is not a feasible one, because China will again utilize that state to create terrorism. But, this Telangana issue is a valid one. If you go through the history pages, then you will find that the people of this region were always ill-treated by the Nizam. Nizam went for a subsidiary alliance with British Empire and built a Muslim state on its own. In his era, our Telugu Hindu people were treated as a second grade citizens or minorities. In many cases, Hindu Telugu people were forced to learn Urdu during his era. Communists revolted against Nizam in those times, but that was of no use.

Swaraj: - Yes, Arindam, you are right. Not only have that, during the rule of Nizam, the Congress never got any foothold of this region. Later, after independence, they got hold of this Telangana region. But, Congress tactfully merged the Telangana region with Andhra regions to gain political advantage. See, the other parts of Andhra Pradesh was under British Rule before independence, whereas, Telangana was under Nizam. That is why; people of Telangana region were always uneducated. That created a revolt. After independence also, Congress has done nothing for the people of Telangana region. That is why, in 1969, those people revolted and many students died also.

Deepali: - When BJP was in power at the center under Atal Behari Vajpayee; at that time, why they have not formed the Telangana state?

Palash: - Very simple. This Telugu Desam Party was in the alliance and they protested the formation of Telangana state. And if you consider the year of 2009, it has been one of the worst years for Hyderabad and Telangana region. On 7^th January, Raju declared its scam. Net result, Satyam is wiped out. Hyderabad is looking like a desert now. Lots of SME’s are having business losses as their profit were dependent on the Satyam employees. Drought and flood also happened this year. It was one of the worst floods. People had some faith on YSR, because he was very much inclined towards the development of rural sector. After his death, there is no strong leader in the Congress party of Andhra Pradesh. Not only have that, to add salts to the wounds, the big MNCs are now shifting their financial units to other cities. Only, the local IT companies are having good presence in Hyderabad. That proves that the history is being repeated again. Telangana people are again suffering a lot, in terms of their financial stability, job security, education etc, and that has created a frustration.

Richa: - Yeah, this movement is a very old one and it needs to be resolved very soon. See, one thing you have to appreciate that you can control a small state very efficiently rather than controlling a large state.

Arindam: - That we all know and that is why, BJP formed Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, but in this case, the problem lies with the political parties of Andhra Pradesh. They just swing like flowers in a garden, where the wind rules. Anyway, at present, the best solution is to “FORM A SEPARATE TELANGANA STATE.”
